The Yap Strikes Back, Part Deux

Happy Monday! Hope everyone had a fabulous weekend - I know I did! But now, we're back to the old bump and grind and all that jazz, so let's roll into today's update.

As my Hook Me Up! subscribers already know, and as promised, the second part of my two-part article, Promotion at Conventions, is up at 1st Turning Point. Check it out, and if you're an aspiring or newer author, check out the site; lots of good info there.

Around my site, Accolades and Sightings in the Wild have gotten minor face-lifts, Datebook has been updated as have the Bookstore and Deathless Prose pages, and I assigned my 7 Strange Winners at the Blah, Blah, Blah Blog -- check it out and see whose blogs made the Strangeness Cut.

BTW, December's just around the corner...have you pre-ordered your copy of "Alien Tango" yet?

Love,
Gini

Strangeness Afoot!

Last week, I recieved quite the honor. Our own beloved Sullivan McPig awarded me with the Strange Men in Pinstripe Suites Blog Award. Seeing as I am strange (and mysterious! Let's not forget mysterious!), I see this as an acceptance of my general skills. So, without further ado, here's what all the blah, blah, blah's about!

Strange Men in Pinstripe Suits Award

What it's about:

This award is based on the release of Cate Gardner's short story collection, Strange Men in Pinstriped Suits. The book is available for pre-order and at a discount of $1.99 off of the cover price. To help celebrate this release, Cate and Strange Publications have a contest with two prize packages to choose from.

The 'Strange Men in Pinstripe Suits' award is given to only the strangest of folk, and as the recipient of such you are deemed very strange indeed.

Congratulations.

Now you must go forth and celebrate the strangeness of friends (and strangers - strangers are always allowed) by nominating blogs run by strange folk. *Beware, some people don't like you to refer to them as strange…Try to avoid them if possible.

Some rules:

1. Add the logo of the award to your blog post.
2. Add a link to the person who awarded it to you (don't mess with strange people).
3. Nominate seven other blogs telling us why you think the recipient is strange enough to deserve the award.
4. Leave a message for those nominated on their blogs.
5. And, if you email catephoenix(at)gmail(dot)com and tell her you've received the award for your strangeness, she'll enter you in the biggest kick-ass Strange Men competition ever. Details over at strangemeninpinstripesuits.com (click on the award link on the home page)

So, now it's time for moi to pick 7 strange friends. The challenge isn't in coming up with 7. The challenge is STOPPING with 7. (Those left out, no fear -- I still love you and your fuzzy li'l strange hearts all to bits...but rulez is rulez.) So, in no particular order of strangeness, I give you:

Melting Before Your Eyes - Because she's a dancing hippo in granny panties.
Lilium's Realm - Because she mothered Grasshopper and Minion.
That's QUEEN Bitch to You - Because you always have to recognize the Queen.
Hanging with Bells - Because she rocks the hottie pics.
I Smell Sheep - Because, well, they smell sheep...I think they potentially OWN this award, for all time.
Amber Scott Project - Creativity in action.
June "Bug" Kramin - 'Cause you never forget your first Bug.

Of course, those awarded may choose to ignore their strangeness and/or the award, but I suggest embracing it and passing it along!

Reviews, Readings & Previews, Oh My

Happy Friday everyone! As my Hook Me Up! subscribers already know, we're all about new reviews for "Touched by an Alien" today. Well, and maybe a couple other things, too.

First awesome review is from Darkly Reading. Next up, there's a review at Epinions.com. And last but not least, there's a third review up at SFReader.com. Check 'em all out, leave some Alien Collective love...you know the drill.

I've been keeping Team Gini hard at work, so there's new pics up at Sightings in the Wild, Amber Scott's blog interview is moved to Spotlight so it's easier to find, and Datebook is updated. Yes, there will be more to come all over the site in days to come.

CopperCon 30 update: I think my reading time has changed, but it's still happening. It's also not too late to attend the con if you're on the fence -- do your best to come 'cause it's gonna be a blast! And since my first reading (ever!) will be of "Alien Tango", those hoping for a sneak peek should do their best to show up.

If you're planning to attend and I don't know about it, send me an email ASAP -- I'm having a party for all Alien Collective members in attendance, and therefore need to ensure I have enough stuff for all. For those of you who I already know are attending: no, I don't know what day OR time yet, they just moved some things around. I'll let you know. Soon. Or at least by the time the con starts. Oh, and one last thing -- not only will those in attendance be the first to see the initial sketch for the "Alien in the Family" cover...you'll get to see the final artwork, too.

That's it for today. Hope you all have a fabulous, alien-filled weekend! And remember...it's never too early to do your girl a solid and pre-order "Alien Tango".

Love,
Gini

The Yap Runs Wild

Happy Thursday, one and all!

As my Hook Me Up! subscribers already know, it's another short one today. Well, short for me, anyway. I know, I know, that's probably not short in normal terms, but it's my blog and I'll yap if I want to.

Considering the title, when I share that the yap is running again, it's unlikely to shock any of you. This time, though, it's educational yap. Because she's an Alien Collective Member in Very Good Standing, Amber Scott convinced me to become a columnist at 1st Turning Point, a site dedicated to helping authors learn the ropes of publicity and promotion. The first of my two-part article, Promotion at Conventions, is up right now. Part two airs on Monday. (Don't worry, of COURSE I'll remind y'all about it.)

Another one of our own Alien Collective Members in Very Good Standing has an interview up, and since she gave "Touched by an Alien" such a super shout-out, I have to return the favor. Check out the For What It's Worth interview with Stella - Ex Libris. (SIX languages? Girl! Wow...)

That's it for today. But don't worry, there's more to come soon, because the yap never sleeps...

Love,
Gini

The Yap Strikes Back

As my Hook Me Up! subscribers already know, and as if you couldn't guess from the title, I'm running the yap again today!

Fist up, check out my interview at Lilium's Realm where she's also giving away a little prize for one lucky commenter. So head over, have a read, leave some Alien Collective love, get entered to win!

Next, the yap runs in a slightly different way. I need help (I'll wait for all of you to get those jokes off your chests) in the worst way, and, hearing my plea, the Bootcamp for Novelists Online blog has taken up the cry. Check out what I need and why I need it, and if you have any suggestions for who might be my little savior, pass 'em along!

Finally, we have a whole lot of updates on the site (yes, yes, I know, past time for all of them, but I've been busy editing those books y'all seem to want) so check out the Accolades page, the Blog Roll right here at the Blah, Blah, Blah Blog, the Playlist page, the Win Stuff page, and Cool Links to see what's new.

That seems sufficient for today, at least to me. I'm off to edit "Alien Tango" and practice reading aloud -- hey, CopperCon30 is in less than 2 weeks and those there will get an "Alien Tango" preview via my reading, and a chance to see the sketch for the cover of "Alien in the Family". Wish you were going? It's not too late: Hit the CopperCon site to get the details.

Love,
Gini

Short and Sheep and Read All Over

Happy Monday! As my Hook Me Up! subscribers already know, that title's not filled with typos. Today's blog is gonna be short. And sheep. And read all over again. (We believe in truth in advertising here at Team Gini.)

First off, the gang at I Smell Sheep have come up with a little funny that made me laugh a lot. Check it out -- I think it's pretty darned clever.

And, that's not quite all. Hanging With Bells has seen fit to share a little Martini loving (as in, excerpts from Ch. 21). In case you don't have your copy of "Touched by an Alien" handy, and even if you do, check it out...she didn't give the full chapter, so you can fill in the blanks your own bad selves.

Tomorrow we'll have me running the yap again (I know, I know, do I ever shut up? Well, honestly...no...) over at Lilium's Realm. So, you know you're gonna hear from me tomorrow, with that and potentially other news, same Bat Time, same Bat Channel. Or something like that.

Love,
Gini

More Yap!

As my Hook Me Up! subscribers already know, it's short and sweet today.

As promised, in addition to giving away a copy of "Touched by an Alien", there's also an interview with yours truly large and in charge over at Hanging with Bells.

And the interview isn't only with me. Kitty and Martini show up to answer some questions, too, including questions about "Alien Tango".

So, check it out! You'll be glad you did.

Gini

Happy Monday! As my Hook Me Up! subscribers already know, I'm in the midst of galley edits on "Alien Tango" and editorial edits on "Alien in the Family" and that focus is causing me to slip a little in terms of timely updates. But there's a lot going on, and Team Gini is nagging me, so let's get to it!

First up, more contests! Ex Libris is doing a big birthday bash giveaway, including a copy of "Touched by an Alien". Head on over and get in on the winning!

Still can't share the "big news" yet, but I know what you're all really waiting for...the announcement of the Hook Me Up! exclusive Comic-Con Swag Pack Giveaway winners. The official announcement will be coming, right here, shortly. But not at this exact moment. 'Cause I like to keep you guys in suspense, that's why!

Not on Hook Me Up! yet, so only interested in the winners due to idle curiosity? Well, I don't know what could convince you to sign up if the Comic-Con Swag Packs didn't do it...unless it's the knowledge that my next big giveaway is going to be an ARC of "Alien Tango"...and it's ONLY going to be for Hook Me Up! subscribers. So, if you want the chance to read "Alien Tango" before everyone else, you need to send an email to gini@ginikoch.com with "Hook Me Up!" in the subject line. Do it today; you'll be glad you did.

Lucky Friday the 13th

Happy Friday, everyone, and an especially lucky Friday the 13th is it, too!

Well, here we are, the end of another wild week. But, as my Hook Me Up! subscribers already know, things aren't slowing down. No, they're heating up! So, let's get to it!

First up, we have another review of "Touched by an Alien" over at Freaking Bookworm. Head over, share the Alien Collective love, you know what to do.

There are some new avatars up on the Free Stuff page. (And, yes, it's easy to spot what Team Gini favors out of Alien Tango...go see for yourselves!)

Now, I told you there'd be more winning, and there is! Hanging with Bells is doing a book giveaway of "Touched by an Alien"! Starts today. And come Tuesday, she'll have a NEW interview with yours truly. So, hit the blog, leave the Alien Collective love, mark your calendars for the interview!

Winning Reminder 1: the interview with me and the "Touched by an Alien" giveaway over at the Bibliophilic Book Blog is still going on. If you haven't visited there yet, rectify that situation pronto!

Winning Reminder 2: the big book giveaway at Larissa's Bookish Life, of which "Touched by an Alien" is a part, is also still going on. Again, if you haven't visited there, rectify!

Winning Reminder 3: this is the last day to get your entries and extra chances to win in on my Hook Me Up! exclusive Comic-Con Swag Pack Giveaway. To enter you have to be a Hook Me Up! subscriber. Not on yet? Rectify NOW. Send an email to gini@ginikoch.com with "Hook Me Up!" in the subject line and you'll be in.

I'll be tallying entries this weekend, then doing the random selects and announcing the winners in the week of 8/16. So if you want in, and really, these Packs are so worth it, sign up today!

Finally, I have lots of news that I can't officially share with you guys. Yet. Hoping I can share it soon. And, of course, the moment I CAN share it, you guys will be the FIRST to know! However, I can offer a tidbit.

Those of you who will be at CopperCon 30 over Labor Day Weekend will get to experience two things: my first public reading, ever, and a preview sketch of the cover for "Alien in the Family"! And, seriously, if you think the covers for "Touched by an Alien" and "Alien Tango" rock...well, you ain't seen nothin' yet! And, unless you're at CopperCon, you still won't. For a while.

Winning Wednesday

Happy Hump Day to all!

Well, on Monday I insinuated that there was more winning afoot, and, as my Hook Me Up! subscribers already know, it starts now! So hold onto your hats, it's gonna be a thrilling ride!

First up, the Bibliophilic Book Blog has a new interview with yours truly. Find out more about Mysterious Moi (*snort* I know, like I'm SUCH a cipher), leave some Alien Collective love -- yes, I will be answering any questions and responding to comments -- AND get a chance to win a copy of "Touched by an Alien". Such a deal at twice the price!

Next up, Larissa's Bookish Life has a huge birthday bash going, with tons of giveaways, including a copy of "Touched by an Alien" in the Funny Ladies Prize Pack. Check it out, leave the Collective love, get entered to win!

As many of you know, I'm active at the Absolute Write Water Cooler. There's an interesting blog from a bookseller about some AW author titles and how they're moving, including "Touched by an Alien". Those of you interested in how the industry's moving will probably want to hit the Alternative Ramblings blog and check the article out.

We've also got another great review of "Touched by an Alien" from I Smell Sheep. Check it out, leave the love, you know the drill.

Speaking of drill, there's only a couple days left to enter my Hook Me Up! exclusive Comic-Con Swag Pack Giveaway. And that's to...be on my Hook Me Up! subscribers list. It's simple and free, and it gets you in for all the good stuff. Send an email to gini@ginikoch.com with "Hook Me Up!" in the subject line and you'll be in. Contests! And More

As my Hook Me Up! subscribers already know, there's more contests afoot! And not just mine. I know! The giving out there right now is amazing. So, let's get in on it!

First up, though, let's take care of that "more" in the headline. There's more swag for your perusing pleasure up at the Alien Collective Depot as well as a new, more interesting look to the launch page. Team Gini worked hard on it, so check the new look and the new stuff out!

Now, onto the contest info! The Book Lovers Inc. is doing a big giveaway, and on their list of prizes are not one but TWO copies of "Touched by an Alien"! Along with some other really cool prizes! So head over, show some Alien Collective love, and get yourselves entered!

Next, this is more of an "early excitement" alert. I know for a fact that several members of the Alien Collective in excellent standing are planning a few cool things this month -- interviews with moi, giveaways, etc. (*cough* The Bibliophilic Book Blog *cough* Hanging with Bells *cough* and more *cough*) So, keep your eyeballs peeled 'cause my inside scoop says things are starting this week -- in some cases, already started.

Speaking of already started, my awesome Hook Me Up! exclusive Comic-Con Swag Pack Giveaway started last week. For those of you who came in late, here's the rules: You have to be on Hook Me Up!

Yes, it's true. If you're not on Hook Me Up! yet, you can't enter, 'cause only my Hook Me Up! gang knows what to do and how to do it (in SO many ways). So, rectify your situation and send an email to gini@ginikoch.com with "Hook Me Up!" in the subject line, so you can get in on the biggest contest around!

Comic-Con Swag Pack Theme Five: The Grab Bag Pack

HOOK ME UP! EXCLUSIVE CONTEST

As my Hook Me Up! subscribers already know, today's Pack is a combination of all the other Packs. But what a combination it is!

Inside one of the "get" bags of the conference, the Hubworld.com Bag you'll find: posters, including Vampire Academy and Torchwood; bookmarks; books, including LOST Artifacts; a Piranha 3-D visor; postcards; temporary tattoos, including True Blood; comics, including Thor; buttons and other miscellany; and a Limited Edition "No Ordinary Family" t-shirt. But wait, there's no ARC in this one? Nope, there isn't. But to make you feel better, there's another t-shirt, the Limited Edition Rocket Poppeteers! t-shirt.

So, tell me -- what special talent do you have that makes grabbing this eclectic bag the right Pack for you? Why do you deserve two t-shirts?

Not on Hook Me Up! yet despite all the awesome Swag that's available? Well, there's still time. Send an email to gini@ginikoch.com with "Hook Me Up!" in the subject line, and your winning ways will begin! But do it fast -- Swag like this doesn't last forever, you know!

Gini

Comic-Con Swag Pack Theme Four: The Poster Pack

HOOK ME UP! EXCLUSIVE CONTEST

As my Hook Me Up! subscribers already know, it's all about the wall coverings in today's Swag Pack. So much so that the large tube I used to get the majority of these puppies home was so heavy I could use it as a weapon. (Whether I did or not is a blog for another day.)

The Poster Pack contains, of course, tons of posters. So many posters. So many COOL posters. Some are signed. True Blood, Vampire Academy, Archer, Sapphique, Stan Lee, Torchwood, KISS Kompendium, and so many more. Big posters, medium sized posters, small posters. And comics. Let us not forget about comics. 'Cause they can roll up, too, and therefore, they are a part of this Pack. Buttons, temporary tattoos, and other things that can slip into the middle of a long tube are also in here. Know what else rolls up? That's right -- t-shirts roll up. The Limited Edition "No Ordinary Family" t-shirt is part of this pack, as is the Sarah Connor Chronicles tote bag.

So tell me -- what room are you going to wallpaper with all these posters, and why?

Not on Hook Me Up! yet? Bummer for you. Rectify that error right now, before it's too late to get in on this contest. Send an email to gini@ginikoch.com with "Hook Me Up!" in the subject line, and you'll be all set to get into the running for the Super Swag!

Love,
Gini

Comic-Con Swag Pack Theme Three: The Reader's Pack

HOOK ME UP! EXCLUSIVE CONTEST

As all my Hook Me Up! subscribers know, today's Pack is all about the books, baby! (And no, it's not about my character, though Reader does say he thinks this Pack is da bomb.) Coming in a humongous MythBusters Comic-Con bag, you're getting new books, old books, and not books.

This heavy-as-lead Pack (international entrants, beware -- this is gonna cost you to ship if you win, but it'll be worth it) contains: posters, some signed by the artist or author; three books donated to us from the San Diego Library, including "Three Cups of Tea" by Mortenson & Relin; a fun journal; postcards; Kingdom Keepers mousepad; bookmarks, including a signed bookmark from J.F. Lewis; signed comic books; three signed books from Jannifer Hoffman; buttons; other goodies including temporary True Blood tattoos; and the big kahuna, the ARC for the much lauded and anticipated "Matched" by Ally Condie. You can't get this book until November, but you can win it here, now!

This contest is for my Hook Me Up! subscribers only. (Oh, and yes, I really can tell. I really am verifying.) Not on Hook Me Up! yet? Really, now's the time. This kind of contest only comes around once, after all! So, send an email to gini@ginikoch.com with "Hook Me Up!" in the subject line and you'll be in! Do it fast, though. The contest only runs through Friday the 13th ('cause it amuses us...yes, we at Team Gini ARE easily amused, why do you ask?), and the rules will not necessarily be given out next week... So don't delay, sign up today!

ETA: I forgot to give y'all a question/starting point! My bad. While some have already jumped in, answer me this -- what will your winning this Pack do for authors everywhere, but especially authors in this Pack and moi, that's different from what any other aspirants might do?

Love,
Gini

Comic-Con Swag Pack Theme Two: The Vamp Pack

HOOK ME UP! EXCLUSIVE CONTEST

Today's Pack is all about the paranormal. Mostly vamps, but the werewolves and zombies aren't being slighted, either. Coming to you in the official bag from Penguin ACE/ROC. And what's inside?

A variety of posters including True Blood AND Vampire Academy*; postcards covering all the aspects of paranormal and beyond; fake fangs; temporary tattoos, including fang holes, blood, and True Blood "statements"; teen terror stickers from Darren Shan; autographed copy of "Timeless Shadows" by J.A. Ferguson; bookmarks, including one signed by J.F. Lewis; Monster High school banner; the "get" small bag of the con, the Vlad Tod bag (orange on black); buttons; sample chapters from a variety of upcoming paranormals; and an ARC of "Nightshade" by Andrea Cremer! Book comes out in October -- you get it NOW.

So tell me -- why are you the right person to tackle the paranormal elements over all the other Hook Me Up! paranormal investigators out there?

Remember, I know who the Hook Me Up! subscribers are, so you can comment away, but it'll only do you good (and the HMU! gang knows why it'll do them good) if you're a subscriber. It's not too late, of course. Send an email to gini@ginikoch.com with "Hook Me Up!" in the subject line you can find out how to enter and win!

Love,
Gini

*ETA: Okay, I said "Vampire Diaries" originally, but you know, see one Vampire title, seen 'em all, and it's actually the "Vampire Academy" poster. It's wicked cool, so I know y'all won't mind, but just in case, truth in advertising and all that, it's Academy, not Diary. Now, back to the Swag Begging.

Vamping it Up on a Tuesday

As my Hook Me Up! subscribers already know, today is "here's all the stuff I forgot to tell you about on Monday" day!

First off, there's another awesome review of "Touched by an Alien" over at The Romance Junkies. Check it out!

Next up, this made me laugh, so I figure it'll make y'all laugh too. See what's for sale at eBay, snicker quietly and/or shake your heads, and then remember that you can get those and more FOR FREE (well, for postage) from my Free Stuff page.

But I know that's not really what y'all are reading this blog for, at least, not THIS week. You're reading it to find out what's coming next. (Hint: All the paranormal lovers out there -- pay attention.) And to be able to enter to win my fab Vamp Pack, which is the featured Swag Pack of the Day today.

Oh, I'd love to tell you, of course. And the next blog post WILL tell you. But unless you're on Hook Me Up!, you won't have a chance to win. Anything. At all. So, why not save yourself that pain and agony and join up? Send an email to gini@ginikoch.com with "Hook Me Up!" in the subject line, and you'll be in. Need more incentive? Check out my Win Stuff page to see what you could be winning.

I debated whether to share this one on Monday or Friday, but they're all so good, I figured I'd just go in order and save us all some brainpower.

This Swag Pack has it all! You get the official Comic-Con bag -- which is about 3.5-4 feet long, with a handle, featuring a Batman video game. The bag is awesome, but what's in the bag is primo!
